Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was used widely in construction for its strength, durability, and fire-resistant properties. However, it was later discovered that asbestos fibers can become airborne when materials containing them are disturbed, and when inhaled, can cause serious health problems including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.

Because of the well-documented health risks associated with asbestos, the material was banned in the UK in 1999. However, many older buildings still contain asbestos and require expert removal and disposal services to ensure the safety of occupants.
