Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in the construction of buildings, ships, and other structures from the 1950s until the late 1990s. It was prized for its durability, insulation properties, and fire resistance.

However, we now know that asbestos fibres, when inhaled, can cause a range of serious health problems, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. These diseases can take years or even decades to develop, and there is no known cure.

• Wall and ceiling insulation
• Textured coatings (such as Artex)
