Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in construction, insulation, and fireproofing materials due to its heat resistance, durability, and low cost. However, asbestos is also a silent killer, as it releases microscopic fibers that when inhaled can cause serious lung diseases such as asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer.

Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are found in many areas of buildings, including ceilings, floors, walls, roofing, pipes, boilers, and electrical insulation. The most common types of ACMs are:

• Chrysotile (white asbestos)
• Amosite (brown asbestos)
• Crocidolite (blue asbestos)
• Anthophyllite
• Tremolite
• Actinolite

If your property was built before 2000, there is a high chance that it contains asbestos. Even if the ACMs are not damaged or disturbed, they can still pose a health risk, as the fibers can become airborne during renovation or demolition work.
