An asbestos survey is a thorough inspection of a property conducted by licensed and qualified asbestos surveyors to identify and assess the presence of ACMs. There are two types of asbestos surveys Management survey and Refurbishment/Demolition survey.

A Management Survey is the standard survey for identifying asbestos-containing materials that could be disturbed or damaged during normal day-to-day occupancy and maintenance. This survey requires a sampling of suspect materials, where necessary, and is conducted using non-invasive techniques.

A Refurbishment/Demolition survey is required before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This survey is more extensive and intrusive than a management survey and is used to locate and describe all ACMs in the area where the work will take place. This survey requires destructive techniques, such as drilling holes and removing wall/ceiling panels, to gain access to all areas.
