An asbestos survey is an inspection of a building or structure to determine the presence, location, and condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). Asbestos surveys are required by law for all non-domestic buildings, including industrial, commercial, and public properties.

Different types of asbestos surveys are conducted depending on the buildings age, condition, and intended use. The three main types of asbestos surveys are:

1. Management Survey: A management survey is the standard type of asbestos survey required for all non-domestic buildings. Its a non-intrusive inspection that involves visually inspecting all accessible areas of a building to identify and assess any ACMs that could be easily damaged, disturbed, or released.

2. Refurbishment/Demolition Survey: A refurbishment/demolition survey is mandatory before any refurbishment, demolition, or maintenance work that may disturb the buildings fabric, structure, or services. This type of survey is intrusive and involves destructive inspection of all areas of a building, including those that are difficult to access.

3. Combined Management and Refurbishment/Demolition Survey: As the name implies, this type of survey combines both the management and refurbishment/demolition surveys in a single report. Its usually required when both types of surveys are necessary, and its more cost-effective than doing two separate surveys.
