An asbestos survey is a systematic inspection and assessment of a property to identify and manage asbestos. There are two types of asbestos surveys: management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys.

Management surveys are the most common type of asbestos survey and are designed to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any ACMs in a building, and assess their condition. The survey is non-intrusive and can be carried out while the building is occupied.

Refurbishment/demolition surveys are required before any refurbishment or demolition work to identify and manage any ACMs that may be disturbed or damaged during the work. The survey is intrusive and involves sampling and analysis of suspected ACMs.
