An asbestos survey is an inspection of a property to identify the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). The survey aims to locate the type, condition, and extent of the ACMs in the building or property. The asbestos survey process comprises of two types: management survey and refurbishment/demolition survey.

A management survey is a non-intrusive asbestos survey aimed at locating the presence and assessing the condition of any known or suspected ACMs in the building. It focuses on identifying whether any ACMs are present and their condition to enable effective management of the risks posed by them.

On the other hand, a refurbishment/demolition survey is an intrusive asbestos survey for properties undergoing refurbishment or demolition. This survey will involve breaking through walls, ceilings, and floors to access areas that are suspected to contain ACMs. The survey aims to locate the presence, type, and extent of any ACMs in the building or property that may be disturbed during a refurbishment or demolition activity.
