An asbestos survey is a thorough visual inspection and sampling of a building's materials to determine whether they contain asbestos. The survey identifies the location, extent, and condition of ACMs and assesses the risk of exposure to the occupants or workers. There are two types of asbestos surveys:

• Management surveys for maintaining asbestos-containing materials in good condition and monitoring their condition regularly to prevent exposure.

• Refurbishment/demolition surveys for major refurbishment or demolition work that may disturb ACMs and require their safe removal.
