Asbestos surveys are a critical part of managing asbestos in buildings. In the UK, the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 requires building owners to identify and manage asbestos in their buildings. Asbestos surveys are the first step in the process of managing asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in buildings.

The UK Health and Safety Executive states that If you are responsible for maintenance of non-domestic premises, you have a duty to manage asbestos in those premises. You need to take reasonable steps to find out if there are materials containing asbestos in non-domestic premises, and if so, its amount, where it is and what condition it is in.

There are two types of asbestos surveys - Management Surveys and Refurbishment/Demolition Surveys.
