An asbestos survey is the process of inspecting a property for the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). The survey will identify the type, location, and condition of any ACMs that may be present in a building.

Asbestos surveys are important because they help to identify any potential health risks associated with ACMs. If a building contains asbestos, it needs to be managed carefully to ensure that people are not exposed to the fibers.

There are three main types of asbestos surveys:

• Management Survey: This type of survey is designed to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any ACMs in a building that could be disturbed or damaged in the normal course of occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation.
• Refurbishment & Demolition Survey: This type of survey is required when a building is to be refurbished or demolished. It aims to locate all ACMs in the building, or the parts of the building affected by the refurbishment or demolition works.
• Demolition Survey: This type of survey is required when a building is to be demolished. It is similar to a refurbishment and demolition survey, but in this case, the surveyor is only concerned with identifying ACMs that need to be removed before demolition.
