An asbestos survey is a process that involves identifying and assessing the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in a building. The aim of a survey is to locate any ACMs that could pose a risk to those coming into contact with them.

There are three different types of asbestos surveys:

• Asbestos Management Survey: This is the most basic type of survey, designed to locate the presence of ACMs within a building that may require management in the future. Management surveys are often used as part of a building's overall risk assessment process.

• Refurbishment/Demolition Survey: This type of survey is carried out prior to any refurbishment or demolition work taking place. Refurbishment/demolition surveys aim to identify all ACMs that could be disturbed during the work and must be removed before the work commences.

• Asbestos Re-inspection Survey: These are periodic surveys designed to check that ACMs that were previously identified during previous surveys are still present and are being managed effectively.
