An asbestos survey is a thorough inspection of a building or structure to identify the presence, location, quantity, and condition of any ACMs. There are two main types of asbestos surveys: management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys.

A management survey is a non-intrusive survey that aims to assess the risk of any ACMs in a building, and to develop a management plan to control and monitor the exposure of occupants and users. This type of survey is usually required for normal occupancy of a building, and it involves sampling of suspicious materials and analysis in a UKAS accredited laboratory.

A refurbishment/demolition survey is a more extensive and intrusive survey that is required when a building is to be refurbished, renovated, or demolished. This type of survey aims to identify all ACMs that may be disturbed during the works, and to provide recommendations for their safe removal and disposal. This type of survey also involves sampling and analysis of all materials that may be disturbed, including hidden materials behind walls, floors, and ceilings.
