There are two types of asbestos surveys: management surveys and refurbishment/demolition surveys. The type of survey required depends on the type and condition of the building, the extent of refurbishment or demolition work proposed, and the activities carried out on the premises.

A management survey is done to identify materials likely to contain asbestos, their condition, and their potential to release fibers into the air. The survey will also require the ACMs to be labeled, assessed, and their condition monitored for future reference.

On the other hand, a refurbishment/demolition survey is more intrusive and carried out prior to the demolition or renovation of a building. The survey will involve destructive work to ensure that all ACMs have been identified before any refurbishment, demolition, or upgrading works commence.
