Asbestos surveys are classified into two types, namely Management Asbestos Survey and Refurbishment/Demolition Asbestos Survey.

Management Asbestos Survey

A Management Asbestos Survey is the standard survey carried out to locate all ACMs present within a building or structure that are likely to be disturbed during normal occupancy, maintenance, or management. The aim is to assess the potential risk of those ACMs remaining in situ, to identify their condition, and to recommend any corrective measures that may be necessary to protect occupants and visitors from the risks of exposure to asbestos fibers.

Refurbishment/Demolition Asbestos Survey

A Refurbishment/Demolition Asbestos Survey (also known as a pre-demolition survey) is required before any major refurbishment or demolition work is carried out on a building or structure, regardless of its age or condition. The survey aims to locate and describe all ACMs present in the building, including those that may be hidden within the structure. The findings of the survey will inform the refurbishment/demolition plan and support the development of a safe system of work to manage the asbestos in compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
