An asbestos survey is an inspection of a building or property that is designed to identify any materials containing asbestos. This survey is necessary to assess the risk of asbestos exposure for the occupants of the building and the contractors working on any refurbishment or demolition projects. Asbestos surveys are required by law and are classified into different types depending on the purpose of the survey. The most common types of asbestos surveys are:

• Management Surveys: These surveys are required to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in a premises which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation.

• Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys: These surveys are required before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out on a building. The survey will locate and describe all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place or in the whole building if it will be demolished.
