Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was commonly used in construction materials due to its fire-resistant and insulating properties. However, it is now known to be a major health hazard, causing serious respiratory illnesses such as lung cancer and mesothelioma. If you own or manage a building that was constructed before the year 2000, it may contain asbestos in one or more of its components.
