Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring mineral fibers that were commonly used in a variety of building materials throughout the 20th century. Due to its many propertiessuch as heat resistance, durability, and insulating abilitiesbuildings all over the world incorporated it in everything from insulation to ceiling tiles.

Unfortunately, asbestos is also known to cause a number of serious health issues, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. When it remains undisturbed, it isn't generally considered hazardous. However, when disturbed, asbestos fibers are released into the air and can become inhaled into the lungs. They then lodge themselves into the lining of the lungs which can lead to the diseases mentioned above.
