Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring minerals that were commonly used in building materials in the UK until it was banned in 1999. Asbestos was used in many building products because of its properties such as its resistance to heat and fire. Unfortunately, it was later discovered to cause serious health problems when inhaled, such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.
