Asbestos is a hazardous substance that was commonly used in the construction industry until it was banned in the UK in 1999. Asbestos was used for its heat and fire-resistant properties and could be found in a range of materials including insulation, ceiling tiles, and roofing.

Although the use of asbestos is banned, many buildings still contain asbestos as it is only dangerous when disturbed or damaged.
