Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral that was commonly used in the construction industry for its high heat resistance and durability. Unfortunately, prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers can lead to serious health issues, including lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis. Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) can be found in many buildings, typically in insulation, pipe lagging, ceiling tiles and roofing materials, among others. When these materials are disturbed or damaged, the asbestos fibers can become airborne and pose a risk to human health.
